Eleanor was born on January 25th, 1824 in URSWICK, LANCASHIRE.  Eleanor's father was Robert Armistead and her mother was Ann Pickthall.  Her paternal grandparents were Christophorus Armistead and Ellen Foster; her maternal grandparents were James Picthall and Dorothy Wittington. She had a brother and a sister, named James and Dorothy.  She was the oldest of the three children.
