Eliza was born on July 10th, 1828 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England.  Eliza's father was James Watson and her mother was Sarah Hustler.  Her paternal grandparents were Jeremiah Watson and Martha Dewhurst; her maternal grandparents were John Huslar and Betty. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Edward, Benjamin, Jeremiah, Rycroft, Ellis, Martha, Mary, Martha, Mariah and Amy.  She was the nineth oldest of the eleven children.
