Rycroft was born on April 12th, 1829 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England.  Rycroft's father was James Watson and his mother was Sarah Hustler.  His paternal grandparents were Jeremiah Watson and Martha Dewhurst; his maternal grandparents were John Huslar and Betty. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Edward, Benjamin, Jeremiah, Ellis, Martha, Mary, Martha, Mariah, Amy and Eliza.  He was the tenth oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 23 in March 1853 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England.
