Margaret Ogilvie was born on April 4th, 1829 in St Martins, Perthshire, Scotland.  Margaret Ogilvie's father was Thomas Allison and her mother was Margaret Robb.  Her paternal grandparents were Alexander Allison and Marion Finlay. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Peter, Thomas, Mary Anne and Isabella.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
