Fanny was born in 1880 in Ellesmere, Shropshire, England.  Fanny's father was Matthew Davies and her mother was Fanny.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward Davies and Sarah Evans. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Henry, Charles, Edwin, George, Wilton, Harry, Sarah, Elizabeth and Alice.  She was the eighth oldest of the ten children.
