Esther Faa was born in 1814 in Yetholm, Roxburghshire, Scotland.  Esther Faa's father was David Blyth and her mother was Catherine Blyth.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles Blyth and Esther Faa; her maternal grandparents were Williamson Blyth and Jane McGregor. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Charles, David, William, John, Mary, Elizabeth and Isabella Hislop.  She was the oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 83 on February 2nd, 1897 in Kirkgate, Chirnside, Berwickshire.
