William (Big Jamie) Templeton

William, known as Big Jamie, was born on February 12th, 1884 in Lagginsgar, Kinloch Rannoch, Perth. Big Jamie's father was Archibald Templeton and his mother was Janet (Jessie) Ness. His paternal grandparents were John Templeton and Agnes Hogg; his maternal grandparents were William Ness and Agnes Neil. He had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Archibald, George, Robert James, Agnes, Margaret, Janet, Mary and Jessie Jane. He was the fifth oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 75 on October 13th, 1959 in Galloway House, Dumfries (Crichton Royal Hospital).

General Notes
- William was a Regimental Sgt Major in the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders (79th Foot). Enlisted 1905, served in South Africa, China and India. Awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal and Legion of Honour (France). After WWI RSM Aldershot, Ireland, Edinburgh and Germany. Then appointed Garrison Sergeant Major Hong Kong. Retired May 1929. Expert rifle shot, tug of war.
