Margaret was born on January 24th, 1813 in MAUCHLINE Ayrshire Scotland.  Margaret's father was John Ness and his mother was Agnes Bell Thomson.  His paternal grandparents were William Ness and Agnes Sillars; his maternal grandparents were David Thomson and Margaret McHoul. He had five brothers and five sisters, named William, John, George, James, David, Agnes, Ann Paterson, Sarah, Jane and Mary.  He was the oldest of the eleven children.
